Online therapy
Online therapy with registered psychologists.
Psychotherapy by video call with the same structure, length and fee as our in-person sessions. We work in English and Spanish from our practice in Marbella, with people anywhere in Spain and with expats who prefer to work with a Spanish-trained psychologist.
Vicente Pérez Díaz, Reg. AO08585 · Isabel Agüera San Martín, Reg. AO11678 · In-person practice in Marbella, also available online.
Who is online therapy for?
Online therapy makes sense when distance, schedules or logistics make in-person sessions difficult, but not by default. Here is an honest guide on when to choose online and when we recommend coming in person.
Online therapy can work for you if
- You live outside Marbella or the Costa del Sol.
- You are an expat and want to work with a Spanish-trained psychologist.
- Your schedule does not allow regular travel to a clinic.
- You are already in therapy and need continuity while travelling.
- Reduced mobility or health makes leaving home a real barrier.
In-person is a better fit if
- You are going through a critical moment and need closer, more available support.
- You do not have a private, stable space to connect from.
- It is your first contact with a psychologist and you would rather meet face to face before continuing online.
- You live near Marbella and travelling in is not a real burden.
If your case fits the in-person column, we will tell you on the first call. Online therapy is not for everything or for everyone, and we would rather refer you elsewhere than push a format that does not fit.
What we work on online
Anxiety and stress
Generalised anxiety, panic attacks, work stress, burnout. Video sessions work very well for this kind of presenting issue.
Low mood
Persistent sadness, lack of motivation, feeling stuck. Structured support by video at the same frequency as in-person.
Addictions and problematic behaviours
Adults with problematic substance use (alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, benzodiazepines) or behavioural patterns around screens, gambling or sexuality. Vicente combines online with in-person when the case calls for it.
Self-esteem and life transitions
Insecurity, self-criticism, transitions (relocation, separation, career change), grief. Medium-term processes that hold up well online.
Online couples therapy
For couples in different locations or with mismatched schedules. The session is held with both partners connected, ideally from the same device.
Sexuality and relationships
Individual sessions with Isabel for desire issues, sexual self-esteem, identity or orientation. For full integrative co-therapy processes we recommend at least one session in person.
How it works
Online therapy follows the same structure as in-person. The format changes; the clinical work does not.
First contact and matching
You message us on WhatsApp or call us. We talk briefly about what brings you in so we can assign you to the right psychologist, Vicente or Isabel. We confirm the date, time and link for your session.
First online session
You connect at the agreed time from a private space. We work for a full hour, just as in person. By the end you have a clear picture of the situation and a realistic proposal for moving forward.
Ongoing sessions
We continue at the frequency the process requires, usually weekly or fortnightly. You always work with the same psychologist of reference, with supporting materials between sessions when useful.

Frequently asked questions about online therapy
- Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
- For most reasons people come to therapy, yes. Clinical evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses published since 2020 shows that video-based psychotherapy achieves comparable outcomes to in-person therapy for anxiety, low mood, stress, self-esteem and many addiction-related processes. What matters is not the format, but a solid therapeutic alliance and consistent work.
- When is in-person therapy a better choice?
- If you are going through an acute crisis (active suicidal ideation, psychotic episode), if your situation requires clinical assessment that goes beyond conversation, or if the environment you would connect from does not guarantee privacy or continuity. In those cases in-person therapy is preferable, and if you live near Marbella we will tell you so directly. Online therapy is not for everything, nor for everyone.
- What do I need to connect?
- A stable internet connection, a device with camera and microphone (phone, tablet or computer), and a space where you can speak without being interrupted for the full hour. We send you a link before the session by WhatsApp or email. There is nothing complicated to install.
- What platform do you use?
- We use video conferencing platforms with encryption suitable for clinical use. Before the first session we confirm which one and help you with any technical questions. The exact choice may vary depending on what works best on your device.
- Is it confidential?
- Yes. We apply the same safeguards as in our in-person practice: professional confidentiality, compliance with Spanish and EU data protection law (LOPDGDD and GDPR), and platforms with proper encryption. On our side, we always connect from a private setting. We ask you to do the same.
- Can I do online therapy if I live outside Spain?
- Yes, as long as your time zone allows for a workable session window and the law in your country of residence does not restrict it. We work with Spanish expats living in Europe, the UK and Latin America, and with foreign residents in Spain who prefer sessions in Spanish or English.
- In what languages do you work?
- In English and Spanish. Both psychologists in the team are fluent in both languages, so you can pick whichever feels more comfortable and switch in a particular session if you prefer.
- How much does an online session cost?
- An individual online therapy session costs €60 and lasts one hour, the same as in-person. Online couples therapy is €75 (a 1:30h session). Payment is made by bank transfer or Bizum before the session.
- How do I book a first session?
- By WhatsApp on +34 662 266 978 or by phone. We talk briefly to understand what brings you in, assign you to the most suitable psychologist (Vicente or Isabel) and confirm date, time and the link for the session.
- What if my connection is poor or the session drops?
- It happens, and it is not a problem. If the connection drops we try to reconnect; if that is not possible we finish by phone or reschedule at no additional cost. The aim is for the technology not to get in the way of the work.
